a journey of self discovery. You just never know what we might see. Is that a fairy ring under that rowan tree? Look! - a hedgewitch, I wonder what she is brewing in her cauldron today. Oh, and look at that poor menopausal soul, she needs our love & understanding. We may take a stop at the creativity school or a wander through the garden. And maybe, we will take the time machine back to the past! But wherever we go, we will always take time to stop for tea.

ooh. . . mail!

I came home yesterday afternoon to surprise packages on my door-step! lucky gal, me! I was wondering which birdies or pixies had delivered this lot - if you read Daisy Lupins blog, you will find out that all manner of bird life actually deliver the mail and here I was, all these years thinking a postman delivered mine - silly me!
a daisy-lupin friendship piece from Kai, a gorgeous vintage book all about Australia from Maryellen and a delightful package from Corey ! I felt blessed. thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.

I couldn't take a clear photo of the book - but it was printed in the 50's I am guessing & is full of pictures all about Australia - I cannot wait to have a long, slow browse. thankyou so much Maryellen, for being such a thoughtful soul xo

this is the daisy lupin friendship block from Kai! isn't it exquisite? thankyou dear Kai xo

and from dear Corey ~ a collection of vintage ephermera, bits n bobs! thankyou Corey, I cannot wait to use these bits. You are a gem xo

however - Corey's package had been opened by customs. And apparently she had made me a lovely card with flowers and leaves stuck on the front, with a handwritten message inside. This was confiscated by customs because of the plant matter. They were kind enough to photocopy the card both inside and out AND they are willing to treat it with gamma irradiation to kill any disease. ooh, I though, aren't they kind..... until I read the fine print:

The cost to me will be $42.50 ! !

hmmm - guess I won't get to see the real card.

so be warned anyone sending packages into Australia - we have very strict customs regulations.

Im glad the little square got there safely.. I had the same thing happen to Kelisa, they conficated some leaves and bird feathers from her after a eurpoean trip..(She was 6!!) and she cried when they wouldnt give them back..
Customs are wicked, but i guess they serve the purpose..

What a wonderful mail day you had. It's a shame about the card but at least they photocopied it for you so you don't have to wonder what it looked like. :) The friendship piece from Kai is just great and all that ephemera from Corey is yummy.

Wow imagine taking the card off you, was it listed how did they know? My crows would have pecked them it they had been doing the delivering, they don't like interference with their journies.

Fun day for you!
Oh, customs drive me batty but I do understand why they do it.
I ship items internationally all the time from my ebay business. Of all the yummy vintage things I sell, only a couple have had issues but I think they made it through. The oddest restrictions can be found on the usps.com website such as only wooden toys can be sent to Italy?! So odd.....but I have to be very careful and list the merchandise specifically. So sorry you lost the card but happy you at least got to read the sentiment.
Sweet treasures from sweet friends!

Sorry, I re-read my comment and it sounds as if "only" toys can be shipped to Italy. That is not the case but the rules do state IF you send toys, they have to be wooden. Just thought I would clarify. :-)

Wow, that's tough. At first, I thought, how sweet that they took a picture of it for you! hehe. Oh well. Live and learn. I hope I never sent anything like that. I put an envelope in the mail to you today and I can't say that it doesn't have any plant matter on it . . . hmmmm. I'm going to have to start photographing everything I send out--my memory is shot! xoxo

You gotta be kidding! A dried rose petal card on vintage paper!!

DO NOT RECLAIM IT, $42.50 crazy.

Nevertheless, I have to admire a government who checks all packets for contain. I have sent many a cards and this is the first time I have ever heard of this happen.

Though my card was harmless...

I am glad you like the packet...You were one of my first readers to my blog nearly a year ago!

Blessing.

Oh how nice of Corey! Lucky you! I have just ordered one of Corey's paper packages from Susans artstream blog. Can't wait to get it! How crazy it has been opened and the card confiscated because of dried rose petals, can't believe this!

Blimey, I am going to have to check out the customs rules, or half my little box will end up in customs prison. Bummer. :(

On a brighter note, I had a packet of rainbows from a Certain Person today! Thank you! I am planning fairy cakes, of course.

Oh dear, yes - that happened to me last year...I was in a birthday card swap on an MSN craft group, and a lady in England made a lovely card for me. Well, it looked lovely in the photos that Customs sent me...like you, I wasn't prepared to pay $40+ to have the original!
